Why are there phases of the moon?

How many phases are there?
There are four main phases of the moon:
- Full Moon
- First Quarter
- New Moon
- Third Quarter
There are four sub phases of the moon:
- Waxing Gibbous
- Waning Gibbous
- Waxing Crescent
- Waning Crescent

Ancient civilizations used the phases of the moon to help tell time.
It takes 27 days for the moon to complete a cycle which repeats every month.
It was used to determine days, months and years.
The moon phases are still used to mark the start and end of Jewish and Muslim holidays.
A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth's shadow blocks the Sun's light, which otherwise reflects off the moon.
What is a Lunar Eclipse?
There are Types of lunar eclipses
-The most dramatic being a total lunar eclipse, in which Earth's shadow completely covers the moon.
*Total Lunar eclipse is also known as a Blood moon
